Like other Melittidae s.l., Melitta have a short tongue with all segments of the labial palpus similar to one another, one subantennal suture and no facial foveae. Like other Melittinae, Melitta have three sub-marginal cells (the third longer than the second) in the forewing, no yellow markings, declivous propodeum, large propodeal triangle usually, with fine granular sculpture, lateral tubercles on female labrum, apical projection on female Basitarsus 3, no male Pygidial plate and male volsella with elongated digitus.
